FIRE PREVENTION HOURS OF OPERATION

In an effort to enhance the level of customer service we provide to the residents and contractors that we interact with, the Goffstown Fire Departments - Prevention Division will be implementing “counter hours” starting on Monday, December 2, 2019. These designated counter hours will provide a consistent time each day when the Fire Inspector will be in the Fire Station to answer questions or concerns from the public and contractors.  The only exception to this will be in the event of an emergency response. Also, to assist our customers, a form will be located in the lobby of the Church St. Fire Station that an individual can fill out and leave for the Fire Inspector.  As in the past, the Fire Inspector may be contacted via email or phone. These positive enhancements come from the suggestions of our customers and contractors.

Life Safety Permit Reference

Installation

  • All fuel tanks installed at 1 & 2 family residences are considered RESIDENTIAL, all other tanks including multifamily residences are

  • Oil/fuel oil/petroleum tank installations:

    • installations exceeding 660-gallon capacity – permit fee is per tank.

    • 660 gallons or less capacity in a 1 or 2 family residence is a single inspection / 1 unit.

    • Regardless of building occupancy, petroleum storage capacity greater than 660 gallons is a commercial installation. These permit fees are by the tank.

  • Propane (and all other fuel gasses)

    • Propane tank capacity exceeding 1000 gallons in considered a COMMERCIAL installation

    • Tank installations exceeding 1000 gallons require a plan/drawing and fire prevention approval

    • Any tank or piping buried prior to inspection will be required to be dug up and a re-inspection fee charged prior to follow up inspection.

Removals

  • A minimum of two business days’ notice is required for tank removal inspections and is subject to the availability of the fire inspector.

  • All tank removals are a single unit fee unless the onsite capacity is greater than 2000 gallons. All others are charged per tank.

  • All oil tanks must be observed by the fire inspector prior to the tank(s) leaving the site

  • All underground oil tank removals must be observed by the fire inspector

  • All underground propane tanks 250 gallons or larger (individual or combined capacity) must be checked by the fire inspector prior to leaving the site.

  • For tank capacities of 2000 gallons or larger, contact the fire inspector before issuing a Life Safety Permit.

GAS WORK PERMIT FOR UNLIECENSED HOMEOWNERS

To issue a Life Safety Permit in this case:

  • The site must be the applicant’s primary occupied residence (home) and they must be the property owner.

    • Construction of a new building does not qualify as the applicant’s primary residence (not occupied)

  • Must be a single-family structure

    • Gas work in ADUs, 2-family, and multifamily residences must be done by a licensed gas fitter, this includes adding an ADU to a single-family dwelling

  • Prior to receiving a life safety permit for gas work, the unlicensed homeowner must be cleared by the Fire Prevention Officer to obtain the permit and do the work.

    • Correct tools, pipe sizing, installation method, and materials knowledge are required to obtain clearance
